Glaucoma slowly damages the nerve of the eye, often because of high pressure inside the eye. In the beginning there is usually no pain and no change in vision, so many people find out late. Sight lost to glaucoma cannot be brought back, but further loss can be stopped.
Who should get checked?
- Everyone above 40, once a year
- People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high spectacle power or a family history of glaucoma
- Anyone using steroid drops or tablets for a long time
Treatment
Daily eye drops, laser or surgery keep the pressure under control. Use the drops every day for life, even when you feel fine, and come for regular checks.
